WARNING SIGNS = ABCDE
Asymmetry -Two halves of lesion are not the same
Border - Borders of lesion are irregular
Color - Color varies from one area to another
Diameter - greater than 6 mm in diameter
Evolution - Lesions that change or evolve:
� Getting bigger
� Changing shape
� Changing colour
� Becomes Itchy or painful
� Bleeding or becoming crusty
� Looking inflamed
� Satellite lesions appear
HISTOLOGY :
- Thickness of melanoma in millimetres (Breslow depth)
PROGNOSIS:
1. Breslow thickness <0.75mm carries good prognosis
2. Lymph node mets - 5yr survival = 30%
3. Stage
Stage 1 = 90%
Stage 2 = 80%
Stage 3 = 50%
Stage 4 = 10%
STAGING:
This is based on:
1. Breslow thickness
2. Ulceration
3. Lymph nodes
4. Distant spread"
