"Renal failure in liver disease where are no intrinsic renal disturbances.
Kidney function improves if hepatic failure is reversed
Mechanism-
-Initially a decrease in renal perfusion due to reduction in circulating blood volume
-Followed by intense vasoconstriction (elevated renin & aldosterone)
Precipitating factors
- too rapid diuresis in a pt. with liver failure
- too rapid paracentesis
- severe GI bleed from varices
- sepsis
Urine-
- Normal or hyperosmolar
- Very low urinary Na+
- No sediments or casts"
