Management:
2 antibiotics concurrently x 6 weeks
because bacteria incubate within cells.
Treatment
A) Gold standard
IM streptomycin 1 g x 14 days
Doxycycline 100 mg bd x 45 days (concurrently).
B Oral Regime:
Doxycycline + Rifampin bd for x6 weeks.
Relapse rate 10%
Complications if untretaed:
a) Endocarditis.
b) Liver abscess.
